Academic Counseling

Mission Statement

The mission of the Academic Counseling office is to assist students with academic counseling in developing educational goals compatible to their life goals by incorporating the college's mission and CORE values. Academic and admissions counseling is provided to educate students with the admission process to enroll in the college. To accomplish this mission, the responsibilities of the academic counseling office should include:

  • serve as a resource to students who are undecided about career goals and high school dual enrollment program;
  • guide students to carefully plan course selections in compliance with the colleges policies and degree requirements;
  • assist students in identifying helpful services (internal/external) needed for their educational goals.
  • provide career choices that will enhance student educational goals or the world of work;
  • promote the educational programs/opportunities of the college;
  • advise students (in-state, out-of-state, undocumented aliens)on residency issues, Health Occupations Aptitude Examination testing, entry into curriculum, adult education, continuing education programs;
  • counsel pre-nursing applicants with admissions, career assessments, and WorkKeys.
  • review individual academic and educational needs performances and problems each academic term.

Outcomes

  1. Students identify their aptitudes/interests for the career choice in which they may excel
  2. Students are knowledgeable in program offerings and requirements
  3. Increased student participation in academic counseling services
  4. Students understand results of placement testing
  5. Students understand college enrollment requirements and processes
