Counseling & Disability Services

Mission Statement

The mission of the counseling department is to guide students in defining and achieving their individual and collective personal, academic, and career goals. To accomplish this mission, the responsibilities of the counseling department should include:

  • high quality counseling services to students who may be experiencing varying levels of psychological, behavioral, or learning difficulties

  • programs focused on the developmental needs of community college students to maximize the potential of students to benefit from the academic experience

  • consultative services to the institution to help foster an environment supportive of the intellectual, emotional, spiritual and physical development of students

  • assessment services to identify student needs and the implementation of appropriate services, classroom accommodations and community support referrals

Outcomes

  1. Students receive professional and prompt assistance with requests for accommodations for disabilities.

  2. Accommodations are provided for students with disabilities and provide an equal opportunity for success.

  3. Students receive assistance with personal counseling needs, referral options, and with confidentiality.

  4. Education is provided to potential/new/current students with disabilities on educational opportunities and services available at HCC.
